GreenBlue Urban

Creating healthier urban spaces in harmony with nature

Founded in 1992, GreenBlue Urban was set up to research and provide solutions for assisting trees in their battle to establish in urban spaces. With the goal of drastically improving urban planting success and increasing leaf canopy in urban areas, we began a programme to analyse the challenges, causes of failure and reasons for premature mortality in urban trees, which continues to this day.  We have examined the impact the poor planting can have on urban infrastructure, identified key issues in both of these areas and systematically researched possible solutions and designed practical products and systems to address them.

Heathrow

Heathrow Airport looks after more than just planes and runways – we have a huge interest in ecology and green spaces, we manage 170 hectares of land across 13 sites, and in finding ways to preserve them for future generations to enjoy. Heathrow’s biodiversity sites support thousands of species of flora and fauna which thrive around the airport. We’re delighted to have been recognised for our continued commitment by winning the Wildlife Trusts’ Biodiversity Benchmark Award for over ten years. We’re committed to operating Heathrow sustainably, now and in the future, and continually building on our success.

Wildflower Turf

Founded in 2003, Wildflower Turf has pioneered and developed a soil less growing system which has transformed the concept of turf growing. Wildflower Turf is currently working with a number of organisations to help create wildlife friendly environments for species such as bees, butterflies, voles and slow worms, to name a few. These organisations include The Natural History Museum, Sainsbury’s, The Environment Agency and Natural England. A number of councils throughout the country have used the turf to improve parks and open spaces in their areas, and many more have made enquiries for future projects. In addition the turf is specified by many architects for both green roofs and landscaping projects as a simple way of guaranteeing a wild flower meadow and the ecological benefits this brings.
